- Summary
- The Mission Santa Maria catered to Sundown's needs until bandits killed the nuns. The young novice Maria was the only survivor, but the massacre she witnessed sent her into an endless sleep. Nobody could rouse her and so for two years she lay sleeping in the mission gradually becoming weaker until one day she caught Bishop Finnegan's attention. Sadly he decides to close the mission, an act that's sure to speed her demise. With her outlook bleak, the devious snake-oil seller Fergal O'Brien rides into town. Although Fergal is usually only interested in making a quick dollar, Maria's plight touches him and so he tries to wake her with what he claims is his universal remedy to cure all ills
